As all writers know, the amount of paper and ink we consume is startling. A Dutch creative communications company has now released the Ecofont, which uses up to 20% less ink. It's done by making holes in the normally solid strokes of the letters. Example:

Using less ink means changing your toner cartridges less often. It's also better for the environment, which is the whole idea.
The font is a free download from this site: http://www.ecofont.eu/ecofont_en.html
Jerry comments:
What a terrific idea, terrific because it's so obvious--after you've seen it.
Terrific because it can be applied in an obvious way with almost any popular font, once someone takes the trouble to do it.
Terrific because it's good for the environment in which we live.
Terrific because it saves money for us starving writers.
And speaking of starving writers, this blog would welcome other guest contributions on how to help us eat steak (or tofu) instead of cat food.

HP's printers used to have a "draft" mode. That mode used about half the ink as regular mode. I don't know why on earth HP dropped that feature.
Dwayne, come on. HP sells ink.
I chanced upon to view your blog and found it very interesting. Great ... Keep it up!
Jerry, I never pictured you eating cat food. Your prudence, success and foresight wouldn't lead me at first to conclusions like that. There *might* be books of yours I don't own yet; should I be buying more?
Pat,
Everyone should be buying more. You can see them all at geraldmweinberg.com. Any purchases will be much appreciated--but especially my novels, to encourage me to write more while I'm dying.
Jerry,
Ok, I bought one of each E-Book, and look forward to reading them. Question: what's the most financially remunerative purchase for you - are you paid more/sooner depending on how a given book is bought? I should say that "Dedicated to Helping Smart People be Happy" personally makes me very happy, as I know you profoundly mean it, evidenced in all you do.

Firstly, all proceeds wind up in one of my charities. Morris Animal Foundation does research on the health of dogs, cats, birds, skunks, snakes, horses, all pets and wild animals. Our contributions are for dogs. American Civil Liberties Union Foundation for research on US constitutional issues concerning human freedoms.
So far, we've contributed well over $300,000 so you and your pets are free and healthy.
As far as remuneration is concerned, there are three ways to purchase books:
1. directly from my site, where a small percentage of each sale goes to PayPal
2. through createspace.com, who keep a somewhat larger percentage
3. through amazon.com (for hardcovers only), who keep a larger percentage of a larger price
The biggest factor affecting how much goes to charity is the number of books sold by any channel. So, the animals and people thank you for buying the books and telling your friends.
